Spamming at ICEGATE – filing through service center–reg. - Customs - 04/2006-CustomsExtract OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER OF CUSTOMS (IMP) NEW CUSTOM HOUSE, BALLARD ESTATE, MUMBAI-400001 F. No. S/1-06/2006 EDI Date: 27.01.2006 PUBLIC NOTICE No. 04/2006-Customs Sub : Spamming at ICEGATE filing through service center reg. Kind attention of all members of Trade, Importers, Exporters and CHA s is invited to the fact that recently the responses from ICEGATE to submissions (Bills of Entry and Shipping Bills) made by the CHAs has slowed considerably. This has happened on account of extremely heavy mail spamming that has been noticed at ICEGATE and which has affected the time taken in sending information to the user s mail box. For your convenience, a spam mail is Unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk e-mail, Sending unsolicited bulk and/or commercial messages over the Internet is known as spamming . It is not only harmful because it may contain malicious attachments, but also because it can overload the network and disrupt service to subscribers. The ICEGATE team is working on the rectification of the problem. In the mean time a ticker has been put on the home page of the web-site www.icegate.gov.in informing the users of the problem with a request that for the time being they should use the Document tracking facility for ascertaining the status of documents filed by them at ICEGATE rather than wait for receipt of mails from ICEGATE. In view of the above problem if the Trade wishes to use the EDI service centre facility, at the New Custom House, they may certainly do so and in anticipation of increase in workload, service centre has been directed to accept documents for filing up to 6.00 p.m. on all working days instead of the usual stipulated time of up to 4.30 p.m. (A.K.
