No. S-1/56/2016-Appg I Date : 12.12.2017 PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 43/2017 Subject: Import of Raw Cashew Nuts Need to declare the specifications affecting its value in the Bills of Entry reg. Attention of the Importers, Customs Brokers and the Trade is invited to the above mentioned subject. 2. Raw cashew nuts is a seasonal crop, being imported from various countries. Globally, the parameters for pricing patterns of this commodity are as under: (i) The Out Turn or KOR (Kernel Output Ratio): It means the amount of usable kernels available after de-shelling the nut. It is normally expressed in lbs (pounds) per 80 kg of raw nuts.Out-turn is an important parameter for the user to control the nuts quality. Nuts prices are determined according to the nuts quality. (ii) The Nut Count (number of nuts per kg): This is number of nuts per kilogram; it is expressed in nuts per kg. In practice it fluctuates between 150 to 240 nuts/ kg. (iii) The Defective Nuts Rate: The defective cashew nuts rate gives the quantity of defective nuts of the sample: (a) premature kernels, spotted kernels (blue category) (b) stunted kernels, void nuts, moth-eaten kernels, mouldy kernels, brown kernels (red category). To determine the defective nuts rate, one should weigh the kernels and the shells of these two categories. It is expressed in percentage. (iv) The Moisture: This is an important element concerning the nuts storage. It is expressed in percentage. It has to be under control from the harvest to the shelling. 3. The prices are also dependent on the year of crop (prices are higher when crop is new) and Country of Origin. 4. In Mangalore Customs Commissionerate, generally the importers / Customs Brokers are declaring the year of the crop, the out turn, the nut count in the description while filing Bills of Entry. The country from which imported is separately mentioned against the field meant for Country of Origin. 5. As the value of the raw cashew nuts is also dependent upon the additional parameters like the Defective Nuts Rate the Moisture as mentioned at para 2 above, all the Importers / Customs Brokers shall also declare these parameters under the head description while filing bill of entry. 6. The above instructions shall be followed scrupulously. Dr. M.SUBRAMANYAM COMMISSIONER
