No. 224/2/91-CX.6] Government of India Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) Central Board of Excise Customs, New Delhi Subject : 145th Report of the PAC (8th Lok Sabha) 1988-89 Para 2.04 of the report of the C AG of India for the year ending 31-3-1987 (Revenue Taxes) relating to Central Excise - Price Lists. Reference to PAC's dissatisfaction on the inefficient functioning of the valuation cells and to refer to Board's Cir. No. 15/91, dated 17-12-1991. In addition to the points made therein the following suggestion may be kept in mind while monitoring the work of the valuation cells :- (a) Conducting frequent spot studies under the aegis of senior officers. (b) Constent exchange of relevant information with other Collec- torates and with other branches - for example, review, adjudication and technical at the headquarters office, also ensuring informity in classification/valuation in the Central Excise Divisional offices of their respective Collectorates. (c) Keeping themselves up-to-date with copies of instructions, case law, etc. as well as information from field formations and other sources like newspaper reports, magazines, Government publications etc. 2. Keeping these in view an exercise may be launched in your Collectorate for improving the functioning of the Valuation Cells. A report on the results achieved may be sent to DGICCE by 28-2-1993.
