It may be recalled that the last date for declaration of stock of inputs by the textile units under Rule 9A of the Cenvat Credit Rules, 2000, as on 1st April, 2003 was notified to be the 26th day of May, 2003 [Notification No. 43/2003-C.E. (N.T.), dated 12-5-2003 refers]. In the press note of 15-5-2003, it was mentioned that there would be no extension of this date. However, many textile units, specially from Surat, who were desirous to get themselves registered and to declare the stock of inputs under the said rule, by the above stated last date, have submitted that they were prevented from doing so, on account of the then prevailing agitation by some sections of the trade. Ministry of Textile have also recommended for extending this time-limit, particularly for the units in Surat who were affected by the agitation. Considering these requests for grant of final further extension and the prevailing circumstances, it has been decided as an exception to the earlier decision of not extending the date any further, to extend the said last date to 15th June, 2003 as a special concession to such sector. Notification No. 52/2003-C.E. (N.T.), dated 6-6-2003 to this effect is being issued today. The persons filing such declaration during this extended period may be asked to also file the application for obtaining registration, if such units have not obtained registration or have not already filed application for obtaining registration, as the case may be. Without such application for registration, the benefit flowing from the declaration will not be available.
