Indexing, weeding and recording of files. - Income Tax - 204/CBDT

INSTRUCTION NO 204/CBDT, Dated: August 12, 1970 The Board had recently reviewed the progress of the work of indexing, weeding and recording of files in some of the Commissioner's charges. In most of these charges it was found that the work relating to weeding of records was in arrears and was not being accorded any priority. All the Commissioners of Income-tax and Directors of Inspection are, therefore, requested to take steps to get this work completed as early as possible and also to ensure that in future this work is not allowed to go into arrears. 2. As regards the indexing of files, the review has revealed that the system is not being followed in most of the Commissioner's offices. The Board desire that the system of indexing of files may be introduced in all the Commissioner's offices forthwith. 3. In order to review the progress made in the above items of work, the Board desire that a quarterly report in the attached proforma may be sent to the Board by all the CsIT and Directors of Inspection commencing from the quarter ending 30th September, 1970. The first report for quarter ending 30th September, 1970 should reach the Board positively by 25th October, 1970 and thereafter, by 25th of the month following the quarter.
