Separate ITOs for TDS on salaries. - Income Tax - 1435/CBDT

INSTRUCTION NO. 1435/CBDT Dated: December 2, 1981 Reference is invited to Board's Instruction No.1292 dated 10th December 1979 on the above subject wherein 27 ITOs were required to be put in charge exclusively of TDS from salaries at 14 places and to say that the Board have recently reviewed the position. It has been felt that there is great scope for increasing collection of tax through deduction at source. 2. In this view of the matter Board hardly need emphasise that the ITOs incharge of this work should take keen interest in the work. Board has decided to strengthen the administration in this work. The CsIT Vizag, Ranchi, Nagpur, Vododara, Rajkot, Allahabad, Agra Meerut, Jabalpur, Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur and Jodhpur are therefore requested to place a separate ITO in position immediately for doing work exclusively regarding TDS on salaries. 3. The officers receiving the statements in respect of TDS on interest, dividends, payments to contractors etc. should make it a point to ensure that proper deduction is being made and the amounts so deducted are being promptly paid to Government account. If any lapse comes to their notice, immediate action should be taken against the defaulters. 4. These instructions should also be brought to the notice of all concerned. 5. The Board would like to have a report from the CsIT mentioned in para 2 above regarding the arrangements made for the posting of ITOs for TDS work in their respective charges. 6. The receipt of these instructions may please be acknowledged.
