General exemption of 7.5 lakhs

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (1) of rule 8 of the Central Excise Rules, 1944, the Central Government hereby makes the following further amendments in the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) No. 85/85-Central Excises, dated the 17th March, 1985, namely :-

In the said notification,—

(a) for the words, figures and brackets "Item No. of the First Schedule to the Central Excises and Salt Act, 1944 (1 of 1944)", the words, figures and brackets "Chapter, Heading No. or Sub-heading No. in the Schedule to the Central Excise Tariff Act, 1985 (5 of 1986)" shall be substituted ;

(b) in the Table, in column (2),—

(i) for the existing heading, the following heading shall be substituted, namely,—

"Chapter, Heading No. or Sub-heading No." ;

(ii) for the existing entries as specified in column (1) of the Table annexed hereto, the entries as indicated therein against column (2) of the Table shall, respectively, be substituted.

(iii) In column (3),—

(a) for the entry against Sl. No. 7, the following entry shall be substituted, namely :-

"Acetic acid, acetic anhydride, acetone, phenol, methanol, caprolactum and dimethyl terephthalate",

(b) for the entry against Sl. No . 44, the following entry shall be substituted, namely :-

"Photographic Cameras, Sensitized papers (including Diaze type papers) and sensitized paper boards",

(c) for the entry against Sl. No. 63, the following entry shall be substituted, namely :-

"Electric lighting fittings—switches, plugs and sockets, chokes, all kinds and starters for fluorescent tubes", be substituted.

(d) for the entry against Sl. No. 41, the following entry shall be substituted, namely:-

"Parts and accessories of motor vehicles and tractors, including trailers, the following, namely :-

Brake lining, clutch facings, engine valves, gaskets, nozzles and nozzle holders, pistons, rings, gudgeon pins, circlips, shock absorbers, sparking plugs, thin-walled bearings, tie-rod ends, electric horns, filter elements, inserts and cartridges."

2. This notification shall come into force on the 28th day of February, 1986.
