Specified Sports Goods etc. imported by National Sports Federation Notification No. 254/89-Cus. Dated 25-10-1989 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts the goods specified in the Table hereto annexed (hereinafter referred to as the said goods) falling within the First Schedule of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975), when imported into India by a National Sports Federation under a certificate issued by the Sports Authority of India or by the Sports Authority of India for use in a national or international championship or competition to be held in India or abroad, from - (i) the whole of the duty of customs leviable thereon under the said First Schedule, and (ii) the whole of the additional duty leviable thereon under Section 3 of the said Customs Tariff Act, subject to the condition that the importer, at the time of importation of the said goods, produces a certificate to the Assistant Collector of Customs from an officer not below the rank of a Director in the Sports Authority of India, to the effect that the said goods are required for the purpose specified above. The certificate should indicate the name and address of the importer and description, quantity and value of the said goods. TABLE (i) Sports goods, sports equipments and sports requisites; (ii) Spares and accessories of goods in (i) above; and (iii) Consumables relating to goods in (i) above.
