Polymetallic nodules and equipments on board research vessels Notification No. 442/86-Cus. Dated 7-10-1986 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts - (a) equipments carried on board vessels engaged in research on high seas, and (b) polymetallic nodules collected by such vessels on high seas, when imported into India, from - (i) the whole of the duty of customs leviable thereon which is specified in the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975); and (ii) the whole of the additional duty leviable thereon under section 3 of the said Customs Tariff Act : Provided that the importer, at the time and place of clearance, produces a certificate to the Assistant Collector of Customs, from an officer not below the rank of a Joint Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Ocean Development, to the effect that the vessel in authorised by the Government of India for such research or collection work.
