Govt prohibits exports of sugar till end of fiscal - 18 (RE-2006)/2004-2009 - Foreign Trade PolicyExtract Govt prohibits exports of sugar till end of fiscal NOTIFICATION NO. 18/2006, Dated. 04/07/2006 S.O.(E) - In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development Regulation) Act, 1992 (No.22 of 1992) read with Para 1.3 and Para 2.1 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2004-2009, the Central Government hereby makes the following amendments in the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 2004-2009 as amended from time to time. 2. With immediate effect, the policy of export of Sugar given against entry at Sl. No.68 under Chapter 17 of Schedule 2 of ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 2004-2009 Shall be amended to read as under : - S. No Tariff Item HS Code Unit Item Description Export Policy Nature of Restriction 68 17010000 Kg Sugar, except the following category at (a) : Prohibited Unless specifically permitted for export by DGFT Kg (a) Preferential Quota Sugar to EU and USA STE Export permitted through M/s Indian Sugar Exim Corporation Limited subject to quantitative ceiling notified by DGFT from time to time. 3. The above amendment shall remain in force till the end of the current financial year (i.e. 31.3.2007). Further the transitional arrangements notified under para 1.5 of the Foreign Trade Policy ,2006 shall not be applicable for export of sugar against irrevocable Letters of Credit opened on or after 22.6.2006 as the decision of the Government prohibiting the export of sugar was announced and got widely publicised on 22.6.2006 in the electronic and print media. The prohibition shall not apply to export of Sugar to Bhutan and Maldives. The period for discharge of export obligation against advance licences shall be extended by the period of the prohibition imposed, provided the export obligation period did not expire prior to the imposition of export restriction. 1 The prohibition shall not apply to export of sugar by existing advance licence holders as on 4/7/2006 as per their obligations on that date. 2 The prohibition shall not apply to export of Sugar executed under valid Release Orders issued by the Directorate of Sugar, Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, upto the limits approved by the Government, after which fresh approvals will be taken for further releases. 4.
