Wholesale Price Indices for Primary Articles and Fuel & Power in India (Base: 2004-05 = 100) Review for the week ended 12th February, 2011 (23 Magha, 1932 Saka)

The WPI for the week ended 12^th February, 2011 in respect of ‘Primary Articles’ and ‘Fuel & Power’ is given below:  

PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 20.12%) 

The index for this major group rose by 0.5 percent to 189.4 (Provisional) from 188.5 (Provisional) for the previous week.

The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 15.77 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 12/02/2011 (over 13/02/2010) as compared to 14.59 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 05/02/2011). 

The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:-

The index for ‘Food Articles’ group declined by 0.3 percent to 182.4 (Provisional) from 182.9  (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of fruits & vegetables (5%), urad, fish-marine and condiments & spices (2% each) and bajra, moong and maize (1% each).  However, the prices of      milk (5%), jowar and mutton (2% each) and barley and ragi (1% each) moved up.

The index for ‘Non-Food Articles’ group rose by 3.2 percent to 187.1 (Provisional) from 181.3  (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of raw cotton (12%), castor seed (8%), copra (5%), gaur seed (4%), raw rubber (3%), coir fibre and mesta (2% each) and soyabean and sunflower (1% each).  However, the prices of raw silk and cotton seed (1% each) declined.

FUEL & POWER (Weight 14.91%)

The index for this major group rose by 0.2 percent to 152.4 (Provisional) from 152.1 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of furnace oil and naphtha (2% each).

The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 12.14 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 12/02/2011 (over 13/02/2010) as compared to 11.92 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 05/02/2011).
