Production of Cement

According to the Report of the Working Group on Cement Industry for the XII Five Year Plan, the installed capacity of cement production during 2011-12 was 336.10 million tonnes. The projected demand and capacity to be created during 2012-13 are 265.40 million tonnes and 349.60 million tonnes respectively.

There is no such proposal. The complaints relating to market dominance, under utilization of capacity and artificial scarcity as well as cartelization are best addressed through competition and entry of new players. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) looks into such complaints and takes appropriate action.

This information was given by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in a written reply to a question raised in the Lok Sabha today.
