The Financial Advisors and key Government officers handling the procurement aspects in the Govt. have been advised to encourage competitive practices in public procurement and framing competitive coherent govt. policies. Inaugurating a Conference on “Curbing Deficit through Effective Competition in Public Procurement” in the Capital today, Shri Ashok Chawla, Chairman of the Commission emphasised about the competitive imperatives required in the govt. policies in general. He also gave suggestions to introduce and increase competition and transparency in the procurement practices that could also help in reducing fiscal and revenue deficit of the government.

The Conference was attended by more than 100 representatives from more than 30 ministries/ departments of the Central Government. Notably, CCI has already organised workshop with Nodal Officers of Central Ministries/ Departments on Competition Coherent Government Policies earlier this year.

Shri Ashok Chawla asked the procurement agencies to be alive to market information and optimise and maximise the bidders to ensure healthy competition. He also advised the procurement officers to be well aware of the technical specifications, tender process and ensure evaluation of the bidding process so as to have a competition compliant public procurement.
