Important matters heard by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, April 8: * In a major victory for the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government, SC cleared 10 bills which were stalled and reserved by Governor R N Ravi for President's consideration, and also set a timeline for all governors to act on the bills passed by the state assemblies. * Kerala government urged SC that its petition against the governor over delay in approving bills passed by the assembly be transferred to a bench led by Justice J B Pardiwala. * SC set aside a Calcutta High Court order for a CBI probe into the West Bengal Cabinet's decision to create supernumerary posts in state-run and aided schools. * SC directed the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun to re-examine its budget proposed to conduct a tree census in the Taj Trapezium Zone. * SC directed the Centre and the MCD to remove all encroachments around the Lodhi-era monument "Gumti of Shaikh Ali". * Observing that courts are not supposed to do moral policing, SC set aside an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court imposing a fine of Rs 10 lakh on political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla for mocking Jain monk Tarun Sagar.
