It has been brought to the notice that there is confusion amongst passengers arriving from abroad at Mangalore International Airport, Bajpe regarding payment of Customs duty on the jewellery/gold/silver imported in the accompanied baggage beyond the specified limits of ₹ 10,000/- in the case of male passenger and ₹ 20,000/- in the case of a lady passenger. 2. In this regard, attention is invited to the Public Notice No.22/2009 dated 26.08.2009 issued by this office detailing the procedure followed at Mangalore International Airport for issue of export certificate to facilitate import of jewellery and other high value articles carried out of the country by the passengers going abroad. In this context, the contents of the said Public Notice No.22/2009 dated 26.08.2009 are hereby reiterated for the information of the public. It is advised that passengers going abroad may obtain export certificate for jewellery and such high value articles carried by them so that no duty could be paid on the said articles on arrival into India. The jewellery and high value articles to be taken out of the country on departure may be presented before the Customs authorities at Mangalore International Airport well in advance so that correct value could be ascertained for issue of export certificate. Alternatively, the passengers may provide documents like purchase invoices/valuation certificate issued by the authorized valuer in support of their claim for valuation of jewellery/high value items towards obtaining export certificate. 3 The above information is also available at www.customsmangalore.gov.in (Issued from C.No.S-26/03/2012 Cus.
