Introduction of Biometric Smart Cards-reg. - Customs - 34/2011Extract OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER OF CUSTOMS (GENERAL) PERSONNEL ESTT DEPARTMENT (CHA), NEW CUSTOM HOUSE BALLARD ESTATE, MUMBAI-400001 F. No. S/6-83/2010-Admn Dated 11th May 2011 PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 34/2011 SUB:- Introduction of Biometric Smart Cards-reg. All Custom House Agents, Bombay Custom House Agents Association (BCHAA), other CHA Associations and members of trade are hereby informed that a system of Biometric Smart Cards will be introduced for all Custom House Agents, their employees and representatives of importers/exporters operating on self basis in place of the existing plastic coated magnetic strip based Customs passes which they are presently holding. 2. The said Biometric Smart Cards will contain all the information related to the individual and the CHA concern/firm/company in digitally encoded form in an embedded electronic chip. The cards will have to be updated and revalidated every time if there is a change in any of the details contained therein. These Biometric Smart Cards will serve as foolproof identification devices for the CHAs, their employees and Self card holders. 3. The substitution of the existing Customs passes with Biometric Smart Cards will be done in a phased manner. All importers/exporters of Self category and Custom House Agents are advised to take stock of all the Customs passes of all categories which have been issued to them and ensure that the same are readily available to be returned to the department in exchange for Biometric Smart Cards. They are also advised to submit details/statement of all the passes issued to them before 25th May 2011 at email ID [email protected]. They are also advised to submit The date for submission of all the existing Customs passes to the department and dates for taking photographs and checking particulars before issuance of new Biometric Smart Cards will be intimated subsequently. 4. All CHAs and the BCHAA are requested to co-operate with the department in this mammoth exercise which will be undertaken in phases with advance intimation to the CHA fraternity. 5. The contents of this Public Notice may be communicated to all the CHA s and members of trade through their respective Associations. 6.
