Attention of the Contractors, Terminal Operators and CISF is invited to the provisions of section 8 of the Customs Act, 1962 wherein the Commissioner of Customs has been vested with the power to specify the limits of any Customs Area. Since Jawaharlal Nehru Port has been designated as a Customs Area, the movement of goods into and out of the port area would be under the supervision of the Customs Officers. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust has informed vide letter dated April 2011 that JNPT has awarded the contract for collection of garbage from the vessels/port crafts berthed at JNPT and at JNPT anchorage, and its safe disposal to M/s. Pirwadi Majoor Sahakari Sanstha Maryadit, Society and that the garbage has to be taken out of the port on all days including Sundays and Holidays. 2. In order to prevent any unlawful activities, the following procedure is being prescribed for loading and movement of the garbage trucks out of the port: (1) Before loading of the ship generated garbage on to trucks, the contractor may approach the Boarding Section Office with an application for supervision. (2) The Boarding Officer shall supervise the loading of the said garbage on to trucks and give an endorsement Loaded under my supervision. (3) At the time of movement of the said trucks out of the port, the gate Preventive Office should check the endorsement given by the Boarding Officer and allow the same by giving an endorsement Passed out Vehicle No.__________. (4) Only after the endorsement is given by the Gate Preventive Officer, the CISF staff posted at the gate may allow movement of the said trucks out of the port. 3. Further, it may be ensured that only vehicles duly authorized by CISF and JNPT are allowed to enter the Port. 4.
