Alloting of Code Numbers to SSI units exempted from licencing control - Regarding Circular No. 29/88-CX.6 Dated 7-4-1988 [From F.No. 213/13/86-CX.6 ] Government of India Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) New Delhi Subject : Alloting of Code Numbers to SSI units exempted from licencing control - Regarding. Attention is invited to Instructions No. 503/43/78, dated 19-8-1978 issued by the then Directorate of Inspection and Audit (Custom and Central Excise), regarding maintenance of a "Central Registry" in respect of SSI units exempted from licencing control under Notification No. 111/79, dated 9-5-1978 (as amended). These instructions inter alia require allotting of code numbers to each such unit which should be shown for documents like bills/ invoice/delivery challan issued by the unit. However, it has been observed that in some Collectorates code numbers are not allotted at all and as in some Collectorates abnormal delay occurs in such allotment. 2. The Board desires that code numbers as referred to above should be allotted to the SSI units availing of exemption from licencing control under Notification No. 111/78, dated 9-5-1978 (as amended) without further delay. It should also be ensured that the allotted code numbers are shown on documents like bills/invoices/delivery challans etc. issued by the unit. 3. You are also requested to intimate within 30 days the latest position indicating the number of exempted units who are required to file declaration and the number of codes allotted.
