Service tax Adjustment of excess payments made in March, 2005 (Commissioner of Central Excise, Haldia, Trade Notice No. 10/ST/Haldia/2005, dated 24-3-2005 ) Attention of the trade, industry and all departmental officers is drawn to the fact that the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue,.Central Board of Excise Customs, New Delhi letter F. No. 137/25/2005-CX. 4, dated 15-3-2005 has permitted adjustment in April 2005 of any excess payments of Service Tax made in March 2005 on a provisional basis by the service providers. It is clearly an administrative decision of the Board considering the genuine problems of the service providers, owing to recent amendment in the rules regarding payment of Service Tax in March for the services rendered in March or in the quarter ending March in correctly estimating their Service Tax liability for the services rendered by them in the month of March 2005 or the quarter ending 31st March 2005. In order to maximum possible Service Tax collected in this fiscal year, excess payment of Service Tax, if any, could be adjusted in April 2005. This is a trade facilitation measure taken by the Department considering the administrative exigencies.
