The Scheme of Arrear Clearance Fortnights. - Income Tax - 188/CBDT

INSTRUCTION NO 188/CBDT, Dated: July 6, 1970 The progress of the Scheme of Arrear Clearance Fortnights which was introduced during the financial year 1969-70 was reviewed at the Commissioners Conference held in May, 1970 and having regard to the success of the scheme it was decided that similar Arrear Clearance Fortnights may be observed this year in October/November, 1970 and February, 1971 in all the Commissioners of Income-tax charges. The CsIT may choose any fortnight during the above period for this purpose according to their local convenience. 2. During these fortnights the arrear demands which are outstanding for want of adjustment of advance tax, verification of payments already made, appeal effects, rectification etc., should be reviewed and liquidated as far as possible. The assessees, Advocates, Chartered Accountants and Income-tax Practitioners may be encouraged during these fortnights to bring to the notice of the Department matters regarding adjustment of payments, appeal effects etc. which are pending for long time. Wide publicity may also be given to the observance of the "ARREAR CLEARANCE FORTNIGHTS" in the local newspapers. 3. The results achieved during these fortnights should be intimated to the Board in the proforma already enclosed with Board's letter F.No.81/76/69-ITB dated 30th September, 1969 by 31st December, 1970 and 31st March, 1971 for the 1st and 2nd Arrear Clearance Fortnights respectively.
