Arrears of taxes. - Income Tax - 207/CBDT

INSTRUCTION NO 207/CBDT, Dated: August 20, 1970 On an analysis of arrear demands over Rs.1 lakh but below Rs.5 lakhs as on 31-3-69 for all the Commissioner's charges other than Kanpur and erstwhile Nagpur from whom the figures are still awaited, it appears that arrears to the tune of Rs.3.40 crores were outstanding on account of non-implementation of the appellate orders. The Commissioner's - wise analysis of this amount is given in the annexure. 2. In view of the fact that the Government is according high priority to the work of liquidation of arrears of taxes the Board would like to impress upon all the Commissioners/Additional Commissioners of Income-tax(Recovery) the imperative need for liquidating these arrears by giving effect to appellate orders by 30-9-1979 positively. 3. The Board have recently posted some additional ITOs for the work of reduction of arrears of taxes and the CsIT/Addl.CsIT(Recovery) may utilise these Officers for ensuring that the arrears of taxes pending implementation of appellate orders are liquidated by the specified date.
