Exemption to consumable goods when imported by the CSIRC for Biochemicals Notification No. 153/91-Cus; Dated 2-12-1991 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts consumable goods, when imported into India by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Centre for Biochemicals (hereinafter called 'importer'), from, - (a) the whole of the duty of customs leviable thereon under the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975); and (b) the whole of the additional duty leviable thereon under Section 3 of the said Customs Tariff Act, subject to the condition that the importer produces to the Assistant Collector of Customs at the time of importation, a certificate from the Director, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Centre for Biochemicals indicating the description, quantity and value of the said goods and that such goods are intended for use by public funded research institutions or universities for the purpose of research.
