Dated 12-8-1987 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts iron or non-alloy steel hot rolled coils containing carbon content less than 0.6% by weight, falling under Heading No. 72.08 or 72.11 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975), when imported into India, from so much of that portion of the duty of customs leviable thereon which is specified in the said First Schedule as is in excess of the amount calculated at the rate of 15 per cent ad valorem plus Rs. 1,100/- per tonne. Explanation. - For the purposes of this notification, the expression "hot rolled coils" means flat rolled products in coils, not further worked than hot rolled, of not less than 1.5 mm thickness, of a width exceeding 500 mm and of a weight of not less than 500 kgs. per piece.
