Exemption to iron and non-alloy steel - 057/87 - Customs -TariffExtract Exemption to iron and non-alloy steel Notification No. 57/87-Cus. Dated 1-3-1987 In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), and in supersession of the notification of the Govern ment of India in the supersession of the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue No. 89/86-Customs, dated the 17th February, 1986, the Central Government being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts iron and non alloy steel products containing less than 0.6% of carbon in the forms described in column (2) of the Table below and falling within Chapter 72 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975), when imported into India, from so much of that portion of duty of customs leviable thereon which is specified in the said First Schedule as is in excess of the amount calculated at the rate specified in the corresponding entry in column (3) of the said Table. (a) sheets and plates of thickness not exceeding 5 millimetres; (b) tin-free coated steel sheets; (c) galvanised sheets in coils or otherwise. 2. Sheets and plates of thickness not exceed ing 5 millimetres, other than those specified in Sl. No. 3 to 6 below. 40 per cent ad valorem plus Rs. 2500/- per tonne. 3. Hot rolled steel sheets and plates of thickness not exceeding 5 millimetres, other than those specified in Sl. No. 4 to 6 below. 25 per cent ad valorem plus Rs. 2500/- per tonne. 4. Tinned sheets or plates (including tin-plate waste waste) 25 per cent ad valorem plus Rs. 2500/- per tonne. 5. Galvanised sheets in coils or otherwise. 60 per cent ad valorem plus Rs. 3500/- per tonne. 6. Tin-free coated steel sheets 100 per cent ad valorem . Explanation. For the purpose of this notification, the expression "sheets and plates" means rolled products (other than coils for re-rolling) of any thickness and if in rectangles of a width exceeding 500 mm.
