Bar Coding Made Mandatory on all Exports from 1.12.2000 - 32 (RE-2000) 1997-2000 - Foreign Trade PolicyExtract Bar Coding Made Mandatory on all Exports from 1.12.2000 TO BE PUBLISHED IN THE GAZETTE OF INDIA EXTRAORDINARY PART-II, SECTION-3, SUB SECTION (ii) GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF COMMERCE INDUSTRY DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE NOTIFICATION NO.32 (RE-2000) 1997-2000 NEW DELHI : the 1st September, 2000 In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 (No. 22 of 1992) read with paragraph 1.3 of the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002 (incorporating amendment made upto 31.3.2000), the Central Government hereby makes following amendments in the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002: (incorporating amendment made upto 31.3.2000). Attention is invited to paragraph 14.9 and 14.10 of the Policy prescribing bar coding for exports from a date to be notified by DGFT. It has been decided that as per paragraph 14.9, it shall be mandatory for all finished and packaged items for retail sale to implement bar coding using international symbologies/international numbering standards. In such cases where export items are not in finished and packaged state, the exporters shall furnish a declaration to Customs to this effect for claiming exemption from bar coding at the time of export. In addition to the above, as per paragraph 14.10, it shall be mandatory for export consignments relating to readymade garments, engineering products, food products, pharmaceuticals, leather goods, sports goods, plastic goods and handicraft packed in cartons/tin containers/drums of definite geometrical shapes like rectangular/square/cylinderical etc to implement bar coding using international symbologies/international numbering standards at the consignment level. It shall be mandatory for all exports as stated above, to implement bar coding using international symbologies/international numbering standards w.e.f 1st December, 2000.
