Meaning of word substance In Black s Law Dictionary 11th Edition the word substance to begin with, is defined as follows:- (i) The essence of something; the essential quality of something, as opposed to its mere form (ii) Any matter, esp. an addictive drug illegal. The word substantial is defined as follows:- (i) Of, relating to, or involving substance; material. (ii) Real and not imaginary; having actual, not fictitious, existence. (iii) Important, essential, and material; of real worth and importance (iv) Strong, solid, and firm; large and strongly constructed (v) At least moderately wealthy; possessed of sufficient financial means (vi) Considerable in extent, amount, or value; large in volume or number (vii) Having permanence or near-permanence; long-lasting (viii) Containing the essence of a thing; conveying the right idea even if not the exact details (ix) Nourishing; affording sufficient nutriment.
